Downtown Las Vegas Casinos to Accept Canadian Dollar at Par in Bid to Lure Visitors
Three downtown Las Vegas properties will treat the Canadian dollar as equal to the U.S. dollar for a limited-time promotion.
Circa, the D Las Vegas and Golden Gate have introduced an "At Par" program that allows Canadian visitors to use one Canadian dollar as one U.S. dollar on select hotel rooms, beverages and a capped amount of slot play. The promotion, announced by Circa Hospitality Group, is scheduled to run through Aug. 31 and applies to purchases at specific venues across the three properties.
How the "At Par" Offer Works
The program covers select room rates and bar purchases: Bar Canada at the D Las Vegas, Overhang at Circa and Bar Prohibition at Golden Gate are included. Canadian customers will also receive a one-to-one exchange on up to $500 of slot play while taking advantage of the hotel and drink offers. Circa said the deals are available to all Canadian visitors, including those who are not guests at the properties.
Derek Stevens, co-owner of the three downtown casinos and chief executive of Circa Hospitality Group, framed the initiative as a gesture to re-engage Canadian travelers. "What I want to do is, I want to invite Canada back to Las Vegas", Stevens said in a social media message announcing the program. He added: "I miss Canada. Las Vegas misses Canada. Our team misses Canada. Hope to see you here."
Stevens, who grew up near the U.S. – Canada border in the Detroit area, characterized the offer as a way to remove an economic hurdle for Canadians weighing a trip south. The promotion is pitched as a marketing incentive rather than a permanent pricing policy, and it targets quick wins in room occupancy and floor traffic over the summer months.

Market Pressure and Political Backdrop
The offer comes as Canadian visitation to Las Vegas has softened. Data from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority show Canada has been the city’s largest international source market, representing roughly 44 percent of international air arrivals on average between 2019 and 2024. LVCVA figures indicate Canadian visits fell about 20 percent in 2025 versus the prior period, with airline seat capacity from Canada down roughly 30 percent.
Industry observers say several factors are likely at play. Currency movements have reduced purchasing power for Canadians; as of early 2025 the Canadian dollar was trading near US$0.72, meaning Canadian visitors face noticeably higher costs when converted. Political tensions and consumer sentiment have also been cited by tourism analysts as contributors to the decline. U.S. political rhetoric and trade measures that drew criticism in Canada, and a high-profile exchange of comments involving the U.S. president at the World Economic Forum in Davos, have been noted in coverage of cross-border travel sentiment.
Promotional currency-matching is a blunt but visible tool to counter those headwinds. Casino operators stand to benefit if the promotion increases occupancy and in-house spending, while accepting some short-term margin compression on room rates and drinks in exchange for broader footfall on gaming floors and F&B outlets.
Whether the tactic will restore pre‑pandemic levels of Canadian visitation remains uncertain, especially given broader airline capacity reductions and shifting travel patterns. However, the deal signals how individual operators are adapting marketing strategies to target historically important inbound markets.

Practical Takeaways for Canadian Travelers
Canadians considering a trip should note the promotion’s limits: it applies only to selected rooms, specified bar locations and up to $500 in slot play, and it is available through Aug. 31. Travelers should confirm eligibility directly with each property before booking and expect to show proof of Canadian residency or identification at point of sale. Given current exchange rates, the program can deliver a meaningful saving on everyday spend in Las Vegas if you fall within the promotional parameters.
For Las Vegas operators, the move highlights the continued commercial importance of Canadian visitors and how targeted promotions can be deployed quickly to try to reverse dips in international demand. For Canadian travelers, the offer removes one friction point and may tilt the calculation for those weighing a summer visit to Las Vegas.
