Mass. Woman Allegedly Left Baby and Dog in a Car to Play Slots

A woman from Onset, Massachusetts, is facing charges after she was arrested over the weekend in Rhode Island after allegedly leaving a baby and dog unattended in her car while playing at a slot machine at a casino.

The incident occurred around 7 am local time at Bally’s Tiverton Casino.
According to the Tiverton Police Department, the woman parked her car, a Toyota, at the top level of the parking garage at the land based casino.
An officer then found that car. It was unlocked, and inside was a small dog and a 15-month-old baby sleeping.
The police ran the plate and determined who it belonged to: Elyse Busch, 35, of Onset, MA.

The Charges She Faces
After reviewing surveillance footage, it was discovered that Busch was inside at a slot machine for over 30 minutes. She was promptly arrested and charged with cruelty to or neglect of a child.
An ambulance transported the child to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth, and Families, as well as the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, were notified of the situation.
Since this incident, a family member has taken custody of the baby. She made an appearance at her arraignment and was released on $3,000 surety bail.
She’s due back in court at the Newport District Court on Thursday.
Bally’s Tiverton Casino, which opened in 2018, is located about six miles from the Massachusetts border, near Fall River and Westport.
