Police Seize 102 Machines in Charlotte Gambling Bust
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four people have been charged following a police raid on an alleged illegal gambling operation in southeast Charlotte.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said officers seized 102 illegal gambling stations, approximately $37,000 in cash and two firearms during the operation at 999 Arcade on East Independence Boulevard.
Authorities said the raid was carried out by the department’s Alcohol Beverage Control Unit with assistance from a SWAT team.

Multiple Arrests Made Following Investigation
Police said the search warrant was executed as part of an ongoing effort to target businesses suspected of operating illegal gambling activities. Four people were arrested and charged with gambling-related offences. They were identified as Jianwang Zhu, 40, Haiong Zhang, 54, Xiong Yang, 43, and Aaron Johnson, 34.
According to police, Johnson also faces a charge related to providing unlicensed armed security services. A fifth individual, identified as 33-year-old Jose Garcia, was issued a citation for a misdemeanor gambling offence.
Investigators said officers recovered nearly $40,000 in cash along with two firearms during the search of the arcade. Police allege the gambling machines were operating illegally and were removed as part of the enforcement action.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department did not provide additional details about the specific games or gambling activities allegedly taking place at the location.

Police Continue Crackdown on Illegal Gambling
CMPD said the investigation forms part of a broader initiative aimed at shutting down businesses involved in unlawful activity.
“The ABC Unit remains committed to working with local and federal partners in holding accountable and shutting down establishments that continue to engage in unlawful or dangerous conduct,” the department said in a statement.
Police added that illegal gambling operations can contribute to wider criminal activity and have been a focus of enforcement efforts across the city. The investigation remains ongoing.
