In a candid conversation on Lil Yachty’s A Safe Place podcast, the chart-topping artist revealed how losing $8 million in less than two days forced him to re-evaluate his gambling habits.
Like one day, probably like 40 hours straight, I lost like $8 million, $9 million,” Lil Baby admitted. I made myself stop gambling. I had Mike Rubin write a letter to every casino and ban me.
The experience was a turning point for the rapper, leading him to take dramatic steps to break his habit. He enlisted the help of his close friend and business associate, Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, to ban him from all live online casinos. Emphasizing his commitment to staying away from the tables and dice.

While he’s no longer gambling, Lil Baby’s partnership with Rubin continues to flourish. The duo has collaborated on several business ventures, including Mitchell & Ness and Fanatics, and both are active supporters of the REFORM Alliance, an initiative aimed at criminal justice reform. Their bond has also made them the subject of social media memes, particularly photos from Rubin’s star-studded Fourth of July “white parties.”

He recounted asking Rubin to review security footage to confirm the context of a viral photo that bothered him. “How I grew up, certain s–t can’t be on your name,” he explained, highlighting how his upbringing shapes his perspective on public perception.
Despite these challenges, Lil Baby holds Rubin in high regard, calling him a “super great influence” on his life. “We have the best conversations ever,” he said. “He’s fascinated with the way I live, and I’m fascinated with the way he lives, so we live in the middle.”
Looking ahead, Lil Baby is gearing up for a big year. On January 3, 2025, he will release WHAM (Who Hard As Me), the first of two highly anticipated albums. As he shifts his focus from gambling to music and meaningful collaborations, the 30-year-old rapper is ready to make his mark on the new year.
