Dr. Carl Brincat Appointed New CEO of MGA
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has announced that its Board of Governors has appointed Dr. Carl Brincat as its new Chief Executive Officer starting with immediate effect. Dr. Brincat’s appointment follows a highly competitive selection process that began when the MGA put out a public call for applications on 17 December 2020.
Dr. Brincat is a lawyer by training, and in the past, he has held the role of Chief Legal & Enforcement Officer at the MGA. After three years of studying criminal law, he joined the legal team at the MGA and has been there for more than six years. He has helped to put together the strategic direction of the regulator and its high-level regulatory committees over the past four years. Furthermore, Dr. Brincat is a member of the Board of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit, a member of the Chamber of Advocates (Malta), the International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL), and the International Association of Gambling Regulators (IAGR). He has also spoken at many conferences around the world about gaming and international regulation of the gambling industry.
It is an honour to be selected to lead the organisation at such a critical juncture for the MGA and the industry alike. I am proud of the work that has been done by the Authority so far in raising regulatory standards and committed to ensuring that we continue along this path. However, it is essential that we cultivate stronger partnerships with other regulators and stakeholders, and the industry itself, to achieve a regulatory environment that accomplishes the MGA’s objectives as set out in the law in the most effective, transparent, and proportionate manner.
