The lawsuit mentions QTLST Management’s CEO, Shawn Copeland, alleging three counts of breach of contract, fraud, and unjust enrichment.

As mentioned, it’s related to failing to pay over $1.9 million in cancellation fees, which came after he failed, according to the Venetian Resort lawsuit, to pay his deposits on time. The lawsuit was filed in Clark County District Court on Tuesday.

Other details include Copeland being contracted by the resort to host “QTLST World Media Week”, which would’ve taken place from July 26 to August 2. The contract was signed on May 7, 2024, according to the lawsuit.

“QTLST reserved 1,535 hotel rooms per night for four consecutive nights (from July 28, 2025, through and including July 31, 2025), as well as twenty-five (25) suites for July 26, 2025, thirty (30) suites for July 27, 2025, and twenty-five (25) suites for August 1, 2025,” said the lawsuit.

It also states that Copeland agreed to pay the $500,000 food and beverage minimum, exclusive of taxes, and he also reserved multiple meeting rooms and boardrooms for this week-long event.

More About the Contract Details

According to the contract, which was also referenced in the lawsuit, Copeland was required to pay in three instalments.

The first payment was $229,200, due on June 10, 2024. It was also stipulated in the contract that if he failed to pay any deposits by the contracted date, the event would be subject to cancellation, and a fee of $1,946,000 would be incurred.

The lawsuit also mentions that Copeland was sent an invoice for his past due deposit on October 30, 2024, and the event would be subject to cancellation if not paid by October 31, 2024.

After not receiving payment, the Venetian cancelled the event on November 2, 2024, according to a “Cancellation Adjustment Form”, which was also in the lawsuit.

Two follow-up letters were sent along with invoices dated November 10, 2024 and December 16, 2024. This was for the cancellation fee of over $1.9 million.

Per the lawsuit, The Venetian is asking for things such as all amounts due in the contract, interest for the unpaid balance, attorney’s fees, and more.
