VGW Ends Sweepstakes Promotions in New York
VGW Holdings, the parent company of sweepstakes brands Chumba Casino, Luckyland Slots, and Global Poker, has announced its departure from the state of New York.

According to a VGW spokesperson, the company made the decision to discontinue Promotional Play, including sweepstakes, in New York and has notified affected players and stakeholders accordingly. However, players in New York can continue to access their favorite free-to-play games on its platforms with Gold Coins.
VGW’s casinos, like other sweepstakes platforms, use a dual-currency system, where Sweeps Coins are used to redeem cash prizes, while Gold Coins are used to play casino games. The development means that New York customers will no longer be able to play with Sweeps Coins or convert them into real money.
VGW has released a timeline detailing the phase-out process for sweepstakes promotions in the Big Apple. Starting June 2, players will not be able to collect Sweeps Coins via any method, including postal requests.
They will then have until July 2 to use up any remaining Sweeps Coins and fulfill withdrawal requirements, after which any unused coin will be frozen. August 1 will mark the final date for redeeming Sweep Coins for prizes.
The company added: “But we understand this is an adjustment after many years, and some players may be disappointed. This decision wasn’t taken lightly and was made at this time in the best interests of all our stakeholders.”

While VGW didn’t specify why it’s exiting New York, the decision is likely linked to the state’s ongoing scrutiny of sweepstakes operations.
SB 5935, sponsored by Joseph Addabbo, which aims to ban online sweepstakes and crack down on revenue from illegal markets, is advancing through the Senate and will likely become law.
New York is not alone in its crackdown on sweepstakes casinos and non-regulated platforms, as many other states are taking similar action. Recently, Montana became the first state to implement a ban on sweepstakes in the US.
