Virgin Hotels Las Vegas Grand Opening on 25 March
Assuming that there will not be any further last-minute delays, the much-anticipated Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is finally set to open. The new resort, which is located on the site of the former Hard Rock Las Vegas, has delayed its grand opening twice due to the coronavirus pandemic, but there are now hopes that it will finally open its doors in March.
The casino was initially due to open in November 2020. That date was then pushed back to January 15 2021. Now, a statement from JC Hospitality President and CEO Richard Bosworth says that the casino will open on March 25. The casino is owned by JC Hospitality while it branded by Richard Branson’s Virgin name.
In his statement, Bosworth said, “It has been a journey, but to finally reach this milestone and confidently announce our opening date would not be possible without our incredible partners and construction team.”
Bosworth teamed up with Richard Branson and Jupiter Capital Partners to purchase the Hard Rock Las Vegas in 2018. That resulted in the former venue’s iconic guitar being replaced by the equally iconic Virgin “V”. The property was purchased for $500 million, and more money has been spent on renovations. When complete, it will boast three hotel towers with 1,504 rooms and 323 executive suits, a 60,000-square-foot casino, a 4,500-seat theater, and a 650-seat showroom. Virgin has also said that they will be reemploying some of the former Hard Rock workers who are already familiar with the property.

After a difficult 2020, all of the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip are eager to get back to work. They are supported by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak, who has announced an increase in the capacity allowed on gaming floors. From Monday 15 February, the casinos will be allowed to operate at 35% of their usual capacity, and this will increase to 50% on March 15.
