13 Former NCAA Basketball Players Under Probe for Betting
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced that it has launched investigations into 13 additional former men’s basketball players from six Division I schools over alleged violations of sports betting rules.

The probe centers on accusations that the athletes wagered on their own games, shared sensitive information with bettors, manipulated game outcomes, and, in some cases, refused to cooperate with investigators.
The implicated schools, which are Eastern Michigan, Temple, Arizona State, New Orleans, North Carolina A&T, and Mississippi Valley State, are not under scrutiny, as the NCAA has confirmed that no current coaching staffs or institutions face penalties.
This development follows the conclusion of cases involving former Fresno State players Mykell Robinson, Steven Vasquez, and Jalen Weaver, who were found guilty of game manipulation and betting on their own teams, and subsequently received lifetime bans from the sport.
However, the NCAA has not yet disclosed the names of 13 players currently under investigation, which the association says will remain confidential until the infractions process is complete.
The NCAA monitors over 22,000 contests every year and will continue to aggressively pursue competition integrity risks such as these. I am grateful for the NCAA enforcement team's relentless work and for the schools' cooperation in these matters.

Prop Bets and Integrity Risks
Baker noted that the rapid growth of legal sports betting has created new challenges for college athletics, increasing opportunities for misconduct. He added that while legalized sports betting was here to stay, the NCAA needed regulators and gaming companies to take steps to reduce integrity risks, such as eliminating prop bets.
The latest scandal underscores the need for enhanced athlete education and stronger oversight. One of the ways the NCAA is addressing this issue is by pushing for stricter regulations on high-risk wagers, such as player prop bets, which focus on individual performances and are particularly susceptible to manipulation.
Last year, Baker launched an anti-prop bets in college betting campaign, urging states to ban or limit prop bets on college sports to protect the integrity of the games and prevent potential corruption.
Currently, over 10 states ban prop bets on college sports, including Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oregon, Massachusetts, and New York.
