Brazil's SPA Suspends the Licenses of Four Sports Betting Sites
The Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) has officially suspended operations of four sports betting sites for failing to demonstrate adequate cybersecurity measures.

The suspended brands include BETesporte, which sponsors the state football championships of Sao Paulo (Paulista) and Rio de Janeiro Carioca), Bell Ventures Digital Ltda, (BandBet), Logame do Brasil Ltda, (LíderBet, GeralBet, and B2xBet) and SorteNaBet Gaming Brasil S.A (SorteNaBet, Betou, and BetFusion).
According to the SPA, the firms were penalized for failing to meet the deadline to submit cybersecurity evaluation reports, as outlined in Article 8 of Ordinance SPA/MF No. 722/2024. Each of the operator were given 90 days from their authorization dates to provide evaluation reports for their betting systems, but failed to do so,
Until they meet the SPA's cybersecurity requirements, the suspended brands are barred from operating in Brazil, including offering bets, accepting deposits, and onboarding new customers.
The SPA noted that it has already started sanction proceedings and that if the operators remain non-compliant, they risk daily fines of R$40,000 ($6,988) and the permanent revocation of their licenses.

A statement from the SPA read: "The suspension will last as long as there is no solution to the non-compliance. The absence of reports affects the safety of gamblers and the popular economy, the fight against money laundering, and the collection of taxes and contributions. The measure affects all authorized websites of the company subject to the precautionary measure."
Tightening the Regulatory Noose
This action comes amid the implementation of stricter compliance rules, advanced cyber controls, and rigorous integrity standards for operators in Brazil.
Last week, the Brazilian Senate approved new legislation introducing a range of restrictions on gambling advertisements. The bill proposes a ban on celebrity endorsements and strict controls over the times during which betting content can be aired.
The legislation has triggered strong reactions from both the betting industry and the country's sports sector.
