Cadence Crossing Opened as Boyd Expanded in Henderson
HENDERSON, Nev. – Boyd Gaming opened Cadence Crossing, its first new Las Vegas-area casino in nearly two decades.
The opening, which was announced earlier this month, gave Boyd a new locals-focused foothold in fast-growing east Henderson and added fresh competition to the area’s suburban casino market.
The company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning for the new 24,000-square-foot property on Boulder Highway in Henderson, just south of the site of the recently imploded Eastside Cannery. Cadence Crossing replaces the adjacent Joker’s Wild – which started life as the Cattle Baron Casino in 1990 and became Joker’s Wild in 1993 – and will serve the rapidly expanding Cadence master-plan community and east Henderson neighborhoods.
The casino debuts with 450 slot machines, sports-betting kiosks, a 22-seat Center Bar described by Boyd executives as the social hub of the property, a separate lounge, and two dining venues: Tin Lizard Bar & Grill, a full-service gastropub offering breakfast, lunch and dinner with live entertainment Thursday through Sunday, and Tacos Los Gauchos, a 24-hour quick-service outlet. There are no live table games at opening beyond electronic variants; Boyd has said table games could be added as part of a later expansion.
Steve Schutte, Boyd Gaming’s executive vice president of operations, reflected on the speed of the build: “It’s remarkable that we broke ground in April 2025 and completed construction ahead of schedule. When you walk through these doors, you’ll find a modern, stylish casino experience that is worthy of the Cadence community and the city of Henderson,” he said. “We wanted a property that felt contemporary and welcoming to the thousands of new residents who have moved into this area in recent years.”
David Strow, vice president of corporate gaming for Boyd Gaming, said the growth of the Cadence community was the key factor behind the project. “Cadence presented a compelling opportunity to step up our game and offer a new gaming and entertainment experience”, Strow said. “While Jokers Wild served the market well for three decades, the demographics here have changed. This product is designed for local residents and the modern lifestyle they expect.”
Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero praised the investment and the speed of delivery. “Boyd has put significant effort into making this a premier destination for our residents”, she said. “They preserved jobs from the previous operation, adding to the workforce, and they completed this in about a year – a timeline that is almost unheard of in projects of this scale.”

Local Market Outlook
Cadence Crossing is the first new local-focused casino to open in the Las Vegas area since Durango Casino & Resort debuted in December 2023, and it signals a continued appetite among operators to serve suburban and master-plan communities. The property sits roughly three miles from Boyd’s Sam’s Town and about three miles from Red Rock Resorts’ Sunset Station, placing it within a dense cluster of locals properties that compete for frequent visitors and value-seeking customers.
Boyd has positioned Cadence Crossing as a value-oriented venue: executives highlighted promotions such as a $5.99 cheeseburger special and select $3 beer and cocktail offerings at the bars. The company also noted that the footprint of the former Joker’s Wild will be cleared to allow future expansion – potentially including hotel rooms or additional amenities – should demand justify it.
Industry observers say the opening reflects a two-track approach in the Las Vegas market: large destination resorts continue to vie for tourists on the Strip, while regional operators pursue dense neighborhoods where repeat visits and convenience drive revenue. Cadence Crossing aims to capture those repeat customers by offering a compact, modern casino experience tailored to East Henderson’s growing population.
Opening on a weekday was intentional, Boyd executives said, allowing staff to settle into operations before a busy weekend expected to be driven by local curiosity and major sporting events. If the initial response matches expectations, the new property could become a template for similarly sized projects serving master-plan communities across the Valley.
