Golden Slots Pushes for 24/7 License in Ashford
Golden Slots (Southern) Limited has applied for a 24/7 gambling license for an adult gaming center in Ashford, a daring move, considering that it had not really enjoyed support from the local community.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The property was denied planning permission three times by Spelthorne Borough Council until a planning inspector ultimately approved the centre’s plans in April 2025. However, the permission came with several restrictions from the government planning inspector. The operator was limited to the opening hours of 9 am-10 pm. The casino was also asked to install sound insulation and implement strategies to manage potential late-night disturbances.
The casino has assured that it would still operate with the planning conditions for opening hours, whether or not the 24/7 license is approved. In the application, the casino proposes using an electronic lock system from 10 pm to 8 am, which staff would need to open to allow entry.
Additionally, the casino plans to implement 24-hour CCTV, staff training, an age verification policy, and self-exclusion tools for customers.

The application also highlights Golden Slots' clean track record, noting that it has held a license since January 2016 without facing any enforcement action. The operator runs other gaming centers in Milton Keynes, Haringey, Cricklewood, and Northampton.
Based on the community's strong opposition to gambling, the chances of Golden Slots securing a 24/7 license are bleak. However, risk-wise, despite the site’s location near schools, care homes, and ATMs, a risk assessment found the potential for harm to be low due to the planned protective measures, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reported.
If granted, the license would allow Golden Slots to operate its adult gaming center in the area around the clock, potentially generating significant revenue for the company and boosting local tax revenues.
