Microgaming to Use Big Time Gaming’s Megaways Feature

Earlier this month, Microgaming announced that it has reached a deal with developer Big Time Gaming (BTG) that will allow the former to make use of BTG’s proprietary Megaways technology. Starting in early 2021, a number of new Microgaming slots will feature Megaways, a feature that has proved itself hugely popular with players.

Microgaming, which has a strong culture of working with independent developers, will also be working with a number of studios to help them integrate the feature into their upcoming releases. The first Microgaming slot set to offer Megaways is Shamrock Holmes, a game that combines the popular Irish theme with the Victorian detective and is set to be released in January 2021.

BTG’s Megaways technology was introduced to players in 2016 and it became an instant success. The technology replaces the traditional fixed reels and rows structure with one that is flexible. Each spin changes the number of rows on individual reels, and this can result in well over 100,000 ways to win on each spin. It also allows for the easy integration of bonus features such as cascading reels.

Megaways™ has had huge success and we’re excited to be integrating the mechanic into some of our future games. Big Time Gaming are proven innovators, and we are delighted to extend our relationship with them and grow their presence on our platform.

Big Time Gaming also expressed their pleasure with the new deal with CEO Nik Robinson saying, “We’re on a mission to bring the Megaways™ revolution to a bigger audience, and they don’t come much bigger than Microgaming. These guys were industry pioneers and today they remain one of the biggest forces in the gaming space. As ardent slots fans, we’re delighted to be contributing in a small way to the Microgaming story.”

Big Time Gaming is a relatively small developer of video slots, but it has an impressive portfolio of games, with titles such as Monopoly Megaways. Microgaming is just the latest of several big name developers to license the Megaways technology. Recently, Red Tiger Gaming reached a similar agreement, which lead to the arrival of Gonzo’s Quest Megaways, a new version of one of the most popular slots from recent years.

Fans of the Megaways reels structure now have a lot to look forward to as there is no doubt that Microgaming will be making the most of latest agreement, which should result in many exciting releases.
