Nevada Arrest in NCAA Betting Probe Raises Sports Wagering Integrity Concerns
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Nevada gaming regulators arrested a suspect after probing suspicious wagers tied to Fresno State men’s basketball.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board said its investigation focused on Fresno State men’s basketball games during the 2024-25 season. According to the NGCB press release, investigators found an alleged conspiracy involving former and current associates connected to college basketball programs.
Regulator Says Inside Knowledge Drove Proposition Bets
The NGCB said the alleged scheme centered on proposition wagers that were placed using inside knowledge of a player’s intentional underperformance. The regulator said those involved illegally profited from bets connected to that information.
The investigation reviewed evidence gathered through subpoenas, financial records, cellphone data, licensed sportsbook operators and coordination with the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The NGCB said that evidence established probable cause that multiple people conspired to fraudulently place wagers tied to the intentional underperformance of a Fresno State athlete during a Jan. 7, 2025, basketball game.
A suspect was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on May 5, 2026. The listed violations include fraudulent acts, conspiracy, cheating at gambling and conspiracy to launder money under Nevada law.

Additional Suspects Remain Outstanding
The case remains active. The NGCB said several additional suspects are still outstanding and that criminal charges are being actively pursued.
The regulator did not release further details, citing the need to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. That leaves several key facts unresolved, including how many people may ultimately face charges and whether the investigation will expand beyond the Jan. 7 game.
“The Nevada Gaming Control Board remains committed to protecting the integrity of Nevada’s gaming industry and will continue to aggressively investigate any activity that threatens the fairness and public confidence of regulated sports wagering,” Chairman Mike Dreitzer said.
College Betting Integrity Stays Under Scrutiny
The Nevada case adds to wider scrutiny around college sports betting, especially after a separate NCAA gambling investigation involving Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby. Those markets can attract closer regulatory attention because they may be more vulnerable to misuse when someone has non-public information about a player’s health, role, availability or performance.
For licensed sportsbooks, the case underlines the importance of monitoring unusual betting patterns and cooperating with regulators when suspicious activity appears. For regulators, it shows how sports wagering investigations can depend on data from several sources, including betting operators, financial records and sport governing bodies.
The next stage of the case will depend on whether additional suspects are located and charged. Until then, the NGCB’s central message is clear: Nevada intends to treat alleged manipulation of regulated sports wagering as both a criminal and market-integrity issue.
