Richard Schonfeld Appointed to Nevada Gaming Commission
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has appointed veteran attorney Richard Schonfeld to the Nevada Gaming Commission, reinforcing the state’s regulatory leadership at a time of continued industry growth.
Schonfeld will begin his term on April 28, joining the five-member body responsible for key decisions on licensing and enforcement across Nevada’s gaming sector.
The appointment fills the seat previously held by Rosa Solis-Rainey, whose term has expired. The Nevada Gaming Commission serves as the final authority on licensing, disciplinary actions and regulatory approvals, making it one of the most influential bodies in the state’s gaming framework.

Experienced Litigator Steps Into Regulatory Role
Schonfeld brings more than 27 years of legal experience in Nevada, where he is a partner at Chesnoff & Schonfeld. Over the course of his career, he has acted as outside litigation counsel for a wide range of Las Vegas-based businesses, including companies in entertainment, industrial operations and hospitality.
He earned his law degree in 1998 and was admitted to the Nevada Bar the same year. His experience extends beyond the state, with appearances in more than 18 states and admissions to multiple United States District Courts, Courts of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Governor Lombardo said in the official announcement that Schonfeld’s legal background and understanding of Nevada’s business environment would make him a strong addition to the commission, which oversees the integrity of the state’s gaming industry.

Focus on Industry Integrity and Oversight
In accepting the role, Schonfeld said the appointment carries personal significance, noting his long-standing ties to Nevada and his intention to contribute to the commission’s work. The position places him at the centre of regulatory decisions affecting one of the state’s most important economic sectors.
The commission’s responsibilities include final rulings on gaming licences and disciplinary matters, as well as broader oversight of compliance standards across operators. With Nevada remaining a global benchmark for regulated gaming, appointments to the commission often carry weight beyond the state itself.
Schonfeld’s arrival comes as the industry continues to evolve, with regulators balancing traditional casino oversight alongside newer developments in technology, compliance and market expansion.
