Ukraine Blocks 7 Instagram Accounts for Illegal Gambling Ads
Ukrainian gambling regulator PlayCity has issued blocking orders against seven Instagram accounts for promoting online casinos and showcasing “easy winnings” with links.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The pages, including popular blogger Simbochka, which have millions of followers, posted online casino ads featuring content that implied or showed people winning easily or making quick money through gambling, as well as clickable links to online gambling sites within their Instagram stories. These advertisements contravene the regulations guiding casino advertising in Ukraine, and as such, the accounts were swiftly blocked by Meta at the request of PlayCity.
The enforcement action demonstrates the commitment of PlayCity and social platforms to enforce rules and shield users from harmful or misleading content.
PlayCity was established earlier this year to regulate the Ukrainian gambling industry, when the previous regulatory body, the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL), was liquidated after the Verkhovna Rada approved a draft law that included the measure.
Since PlayCity’s emergence, the industry has seen heightened accountability for operators and strict regulations on gambling advertising.

Advertising Rules for Operators
Under Ukrainian law, gambling ads must be placed exclusively on specific platforms, including TV during nighttime hours, websites and apps of official gambling operators, or specialized adult-focused publications.
Additionally, the content must be marked 21+ and avoid depictions of minors, military personnel, volunteers, and medical workers. They must also not demonstrate promises of easy money or hidden advertising, and must include at least 15% of responsible gambling warnings.
Most importantly, the ads must promote only licensed and legal brands in Ukraine.
