Birches Health Raises $20M to Improve Gaming Addiction Care
Birches Health, a company that provides online treatment for gambling and other behavioral addictions, has closed funding rounds totaling $20 million. The money will help the New York-based firm grow its team of clinicians and build more connections with insurance companies and state health agencies.

The funding includes a seed round from 2023 led by General Catalyst, with support from Will Ventures, Haystack, and defy.vc. The more recent Series A round, completed in August 2025, was led by AlleyCorp and included follow-on investments from earlier backers. Other participants in the rounds were Operator Partners and additional investors.
Elliott Rapaport, the founder and CEO of Birches Health, started the company to make specialized care easier to reach for those dealing with gambling-related issues. The firm now operates in all 50 states, offering virtual sessions that fit into patients' daily lives.
The drive for funding reflects the significant shift in the sports betting landscape since the 2018 Supreme Court ruling, which allowed states to establish their own online sports betting markets.
A poll from the American Psychiatric Association shows 28% of adults in the U.S. gamble online every day. Studies link this to higher rates of problem gamblers looking for help, up by 23% in some areas. Those facing these addictions often deal with added struggles, like family conflicts or higher risks of harm to themselves.
Birches Health’s approach lets people start treatment from home, with options like one-on-one counseling, group sessions, and support for building better habits.
The United States is facing a looming gambling addiction crisis. By integrating with leading insurance companies and state Departments of Health, we are proving that access to specialized care for those struggling with gambling, gaming, sex, pornography, and internet addiction should be available to all.

Plans for Growth
With the new funds, Birches Health aims to add more trained counselors and improve how they track patient progress. This will help more individuals get the right level of care without travel or high costs. Many patients pay nothing out of pocket thanks to deals with insurers like UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.
The company has also teamed up with groups in the betting world to promote safe habits. In January 2025, it joined forces with Wire Industries, the parent of WagerWire, to create educational tools and use AI for better support on their platform.
Another partner is Delaware North, which helps spread awareness. These links show how treatment providers and betting firms can work together to spot problems early.
