MintBet Slapped with Fine for Responsible Gambling Failings
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:
MintBet Failed to Act Despite Signs of Distress
The VGCCC ruled that the operator failed to stop accepting bets even though the player was displaying signs of problem gambling and distress. The state’s Responsible Gambling Code of Conduct requires licensed operators to stop accepting bets in such situations.
Furthermore, the VGCCC highlighted that MintBet did not close the customer’s account until the player actively identified that they were experiencing gambling harm. The regulator did acknowledge that MintBet had procedures in place to reduce gambling harms but said that they were inadequate.
VGCCC Orders MintBet to Provide Updates
In addition to the fine, MintBet must also inform the VGCCC of the changes it will implement to its systems and processes. After it has done so, the VGCCC will evaluate it and decide whether it needs to take any further action.
Victoria gambling providers must comply with their responsible gambling codes of conduct. They exist to protect people from gambling harm. Even if accepting bets online, providers must monitor for and intervene when customers are displaying indicators of distress. Gambling for an extended period is a key indicator of distress that may indicate problem gambling. There are serious consequences for any gambling provider that fails to comply with their own responsible gambling code of conduct. We won’t tolerate it.
