New BGC Video Explains Why Regulated Industry Is a ‘Safer Bet’
Britain’s Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has launched a new animated video that is designed to show gamblers why playing in the regulated industry is a safer option. The video highlights the regulated industry’s record of safer gambling as well as its contribution to sports and the economy.
Furthermore, the animation, which is part of a wider campaign, also warns that the government’s Gambling Review may unintentionally send customers towards the unregulated market. A report from PWC showed that over 12 months between 2018 and 2019, around 200,000 UK based gamblers bet roughly £1.4 billion with unregulated operators.
The video, which lasts for a little over three and a half minutes, tells gamblers that the regulated sector is “a safer bet” and that the UK is “one of the safest places in the world to place a bet.”
Beyond highlighting the relative safety of the regulated industry, the video also seeks to persuade by showcasing the good that the regulated industry does for society. For instance, it points out the £8.7 billion that is contributed to the economy, the £3.2 billion paid in taxes, the 100,000 jobs it has created, and the £350 million given to horseracing, in addition to millions more to sports such as football, snooker, darks, and rugby league.
As the standards body for the regulated industry, we have strongly welcomed the Gambling Review. However, it is vital that it does nothing to drive punters towards the illegal, online black market, which has none of the protections in place that the regulated industry does. This animation powerfully sets out the steps we have taken – and continue to take – on safer gambling, while also highlighting the immense contribution that the regulated industry makes to the economy and the country’s most popular sports. It clearly demonstrates that the regulated industry is a safer bet.
