Safer Gambling Week 2020 in the UK and Ireland
Safer Gambling Week 2020 will take place from 19th to 25 November 2020 in the UK and Ireland. It is a campaign run by the gambling industry in order to raise awareness of safe gambling practices amongst players, operators, and the general public.
Supported by the entire UK and Irish gambling industry, the aim is to educate about how to gamble safely, what tools are available to players, and where people can turn to for further help. Safe gambling information is available at all times in gambling venues and on websites. However, during Safer Gambling Week, the information will be even more prominent, and a collection of promotional material has been made available to all participating institutions.
The materials aim to educate about safe gambling behavior, highlight questions that should be asked about gambling behavior, point people towards further resources and also promote the Safer Gambling Week campaign.
As part of the week, visitors to gambling venues across the UK can expect to see posters, leaflets, and banners. Some venues will be hosting special events, while gambling websites will be running special banner adverts and pop-ups. There will also be a social media drive on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to encourage people to engage in conversations about safer gambling.
The campaign is also being supported by organizations such as Facebook, the National Gambling Helpline, GamCare, and YGam, all of which will be doing their best to promote the week.
At the same time, charities such as GamCare and YGam will be running workshops and training sessions. The workshops will be particularly geared towards those who work with the young, such as teachers and youth workers, as well as parents. The aim is to increase awareness of the risks associated with gambling amongst young people and help them understand how they can enjoy gambling in a safe manner.
