The Betting & Gaming Council has reported a 70% year-over-year increase in the promotion of Safer Gambling Week, which has resulted in over 50 million social media impressions across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X.

Safer Gambling Week, introduced seven years ago, is an annual campaign that urges industry members to promote responsible gambling. It also aims to raise awareness about safe gambling and empowers players with resources and advice to stay in control of their gambling behavior.

The initiative is a collaborative effort led by the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), the British Amusement Catering Trade Association (BACTA), and the Bingo Association.

Impressions Up 70% Year-on-Year

This year’s edition of Safer Gambling Week was held between November 13 and 19 and featured participation from various stakeholders in the gambling industry including land-based and online. Several senior MPs and peers from various political parties endorsed the campaign. It also received support from the UK Gambling Commission.

Throughout the week, the initiative's website garnered half a million visits. It also generated 50 million impressions on social media which is up 70% compared to the nearly 30 million impressions gotten last year.

This year’s Safer Gambling Week campaign has proved another huge success, achieving new records for promoting the safer gambling tools available to customers and signposting the help and support available to those who need it. It is proven that the success of the campaign leads to increased use of popular safer gambling tools – like time-outs and deposit limits – that only exist in the regulated industry.

Backing from Football Teams

The campaign also attracted support from football clubs across the country, including West Ham United, Brighton, Southampton, Middlesbrough, and Blackpool who displayed the initiative's logo on their shirt during their game last weekend.

The Safer Gambling Week also witnessed other events with speakers from safer gambling charities sharing insights and best practices for responsible gaming.

Thanks to Safer Gambling Week, we can be confident millions of people are better informed about the ways they can enjoy their hobby even more safely and responsibly, that’s something the entire industry can be proud of. But the regulated industry’s commitment to safer gambling is not just for one week of the year. It is our mission for every week of the year.
