Social Gaming Leadership Alliance Hosts Online Webinar
At an SGLA webinar, VGW revealed it sets personalized spending limits for its highest-spending sweepstakes casino players.

During the Online Social Games Expo, a webinar hosted by the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance, it was revealed that Virtual Gaming Worlds (Chumba Casino, Global Poker, LuckyLand Slots) creates personalized spending limits for the highest-spending players.
The webinar featured guests such as the SGLA’s executive director, Jeff Duncan; general counsel for ARB Interactive, Bryan P. Schroeder; VGW’s executive product advisor, Derek Brinkman; Yellow Social Interactive director, Paul Foster; and Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation’s tribal administrator, Eric Wright.
Personalized Spending Limits, Average Weekly Spending
During the expo, Brinkman discussed VGW’s concept of personalized spending limits, stating that players' accounts are flagged once they reach a spending limit of $2,000. When that happens, the player must submit a statement of funds to prove their assets.
Based on that information, the VGW responsible gameplay team calculates a spending limit for that player. Brinkman also noted that the average player spends approximately $25 per week at VGW properties.
That is a very different kind of player than a typical real-money casino gambling player. They typically go to a casino with hundreds or thousands of dollars. Our guys are really playing with $25 a week median spend. They’re playing in opportunities to play, like waiting in line at the store, or they’re watching TV and they’re double-screening, or they’re picking up their kids from soccer practice, and they’ve got 15 minutes to kill. That’s the typical kind of player.
There was also a discussion about the different habits and preferences of sweepstakes casino players and real-money casino players. Foster referenced that typically someone will come on for 15 to 20 minutes.

Discussion Around Minors Playing and Age Requirements
The panel also addressed a narrative surrounding sweepstakes casinos that the age verification isn’t up to par. They also discussed an ad run by the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation during the height of the AB 831 cycle, an anti-sweepstakes casino bill in California.
“I really wouldn’t be here today and involved in this area if we thought that we were going to harm minors or even attract minors”, Foster said. “It’s not what we do. It is adults. It is age-verified. We have a lot of player protection controls around it. We use a lot of third-party software that is very strong. And we believe that we’re setting the highest standard.”
The SGLA-hosted panel also mentioned that they want all sweepstakes casinos to be 21-plus outlets as opposed to 18-plus.
All sweepstakes casinos that are part of the SGLA are 21-plus, and there’s more than just checking a box that says you’re 21. They referenced that you’ll need to provide some form of ID.
“We believe that is where it should be”, Foster said. “We really want to focus on that. If our critics have sites themselves and they’re not doing it, that’s up to them. But we want to be the best and that’s what we’re trying to do.”
