The incident took place at West End's premises on Brårupgade 6 in Skive, a quiet area in central Jutland. For five days in late January 2025, the operator allowed people to play on machines that lacked the required license.

This violation came to light through an investigation by the authority that regulates the country's gambling industry.

According to the DGA, West End broke section 59(1) of the Gambling Act, which requires all operators to get a license before providing any gambling services. The machines were in use from January 27 to 31, 2025, drawing in players who might not have realized the setup was not setup was not fully legal.

In light of the findings, the regulator imposed a fine of DKK 6,928 ($1,100) on West End. While not a huge sum for larger companies, it serves as a clear warning for operators of all sizes.

West End cooperated fully once the issue was raised. The operator admitted the mistake and agreed to the fine without contest.

This case indicates how even local businesses can face challenges in staying on top of regulations, especially in an industry where rules aim to protect players from unfair practices.

DGA Ramps Up Fight against Unlicensed Sites

In recent months, the authority has stepped up efforts against unlicensed operations. In March 2025, it teamed up with platforms like Twitch to stop illegal betting involving Robux, a virtual currency popular with kids. Then in June, it blocked a record 178 illegal websites that targeted Danish users with local language and payment options.

The Danish Gambling Authority asserts that this approach helps protect consumers, particularly minors, from potential harm associated with unlicensed gambling sites.

The aim of the Danish Gambling Authority is to ensure a safe, fair and legal gambling environment by preventing unlicensed activity. This includes rigorous enforcement against operators who fail to comply with licensing requirements under the Gambling Act.
