The regulator also noted that the state collected roughly $250 million in tax revenue tied to gaming activity for the month.

Operator Results and Channel Trends

Slot machines remained a steady contributor, producing $189.1 million across the state, a modest 0.7% increase. Parx Casino led the slot segment with $29.2 million but posted a 2.5% decline compared with January 2025. Wind Creek Bethlehem reported $21.1 million in slot revenue, down 0.7%, while Rivers Casino Pittsburgh was one of the brighter spots, up 1.1% to $20.8 million.

iGaming accounted for roughly 42% of total casino revenue in January, underscoring the channel’s growing importance to Pennsylvania’s market. Hollywood Casino at Penn National generated $96.2 million from online play, a 20.7% jump, while Valley Forge reported $67.7 million, up 16.6%. Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s online operation produced $40.1 million, a 13.2% increase.

Sports betting continues to provide a steady revenue stream as well. Operators collectively posted $71.4 million in sportsbook revenue from $782.4 million in handle. Valley Forge led the sports-betting field in January with $27.6 million in revenue on a $276.3 million handle. Hollywood Casino at the Meadows reported $22.7 million in revenue from $235.8 million wagered, and Hollywood Casino York generated $5.6 million from $56.3 million in handle.

Industry observers say the January results reflect both seasonal patterns and strategic investments by operators to migrate customers to higher-margin online channels. An industry analyst who spoke on background said: The scale of the iGaming contribution is now shaping operational priorities. Operators that invested in mobile-first platforms and aggressive promotional structures are clearly capturing a larger slice of player spend, which is showing up in these headline numbers.

Revenue Composition and Regulatory Notes

The mix of revenue streams highlights an important shift: while brick-and-mortar gaming still provides a base, digital products are increasingly the engine of growth. For regulators and policymakers, that raises questions about taxation, responsible gambling measures, and the allocation of revenue between state and local programs. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s January report did not flag any extraordinary regulatory actions tied to the numbers, but the continued growth of iGaming is likely to keep oversight and compliance high on the agenda.

Commenting on the broader market, a senior gaming economist said: Pennsylvania remains one of the largest iGaming markets in the United States, operating alongside robust markets like New Jersey and Michigan. Continued year-on-year growth shows player adoption is still expanding, but long-term operator profitability will depend on cost control, effective player acquisition, and regulatory stability.

Looking ahead, analysts will watch February and the spring months to see whether the January gains signal a new baseline for the industry or reflect a short-term boost. For now, the combination of strong online performance and steady retail play has handed Pennsylvania one of its stronger January results in recent years, and one that will shape operator strategies and regulatory conversations through 2026.
