Murray chose the lump sum payment option, netting him $6,122,400. This choice is available to all New York state lottery winners, who can opt for either annual instalments with lower taxes or a lump sum with a higher tax rate. Murray made the same choice in 2022 after winning with a Black Titanium scratch-off ticket.

Unbelievably Small Odds of Winning Twice
The likelihood of winning the lottery twice in successive years is extraordinarily low. For context, the odds of winning the Black Titanium jackpot are 1 in 3.53 million, and for the 200x game, it's 1 in 3.64 million. Murray, who kept his 2022 win a secret until recently, seems to have an unusual streak of luck. In addition to his lottery fortune, he inherited property from a relative in 2021.
