Card Dealer Accused of Stealing $15K in Chips at Gardens Casino
HAWAIIAN GARDENS, Calif. – A card dealer at The Gardens Casino has been arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $15,000 in gaming chips.
The California Department of Justice said the arrest took place on April 15 following an investigation led by its Bureau of Gambling Control.
Authorities said the case began in March after investigators received information suggesting a dealer at the Los Angeles County cardroom was removing chips from the casino. Officials reviewed internal data and worked with casino staff before making the arrest at the property in Hawaiian Gardens.
The individual, who has not been publicly identified, faces a potential charge of grand theft. No additional details about how the chips were allegedly taken or recovered were released.
Attorney General Rob Bonta said the case highlights the importance of oversight in regulated gaming environments. “When someone entrusted with maintaining fairness in a card room instead stacks the decks for themselves, they must be held accountable,” Bonta said in a statement.

The investigation was carried out by the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Gambling Control, which is responsible for regulating cardrooms and ensuring gambling activity in California is conducted in line with state law.
Officials said the bureau works to ensure that gaming operations remain “honest, competitive, and free from criminal and corruptive elements”, a standard that includes monitoring employees as well as operators.
The arrest follows cooperation between regulators and casino staff, with authorities describing the case as the result of coordinated investigative work.
No further information has been released about court proceedings or whether additional charges may follow.
