Former BetMGM Exec Takes Up New Role at Caesars

Caesars Digital has announced the appointment of Matthew Sunderland as its new SVP of iGaming, to resume the position officially on October 1.

Sunderland has been in the online gaming and betting industry for over 20 years. He has worked at firms like Probability PLC, GTECH/IGT, and CNN International. However, Sunderland got more recognition for his achievements as VP of Gaming at BetMGM. He was instrumental in the creation and development of BetMGM’s digital offering as well as the general rise of the brand.

Under his watch, BetMGM became one of the top three brands in the country, and the brand also won the Casino Operator of the Year at the SBC Awards in New Jersey in July.

This is an exciting time to be in iGaming and at Caesars Entertainment, and I am so pleased to join the Caesars team. As the industry continues to grow, I’m looking forward to identifying new potential for our iGaming business while continuing to bring top-notch service to our customers.

Caesars is appointing Sunderland at a time when its updated sportsbook app is entering new markets like Kansas and Pennsylvania. Although its market share has grown substantially in 2022, it is lower compared to the shares of other leading betting operators like FanDuel, BetMGM and DraftKings. However, the company looks to achieve more growth by launching in new territories and making strategic partnerships and appointments.

We’re thrilled to have Matt join the Caesars team. His deep experience and successful track record will be a tremendous asset as we continue to grow our iGaming and sports betting business. We’re looking forward to what we can accomplish together with Caesars Sportsbook & Casino.
