The Reason Why Poker Games Are Missing from Massachusetts Casinos
It has been revealed during a recent hearing by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission that there is a severe shortage of poker dealers in Massachusetts casinos.
The reason for the hearing was that there had been a large number of complaints from casino customers who were demanding the reintroduction of poker games at Massachusetts casinos.
MGM Springfield and Encore Boston resumed business as usual in May after being shut down due to Covid, with operations basically returning to normal except for the obvious omission of poker games.
The two casinos have both announced that they will decide on the poker situation by the end of 2021 but emphasized that they have not ditched poker games and are currently juggling the services which they can offer according to the workforce which they have available.
To be clear, we did not say never to poker. We have said just not at this time. We’re constantly readjusting our offerings based on guest demand. Throughout this difficult time, we have really tried to be agile and responsive. However, we do have limited space, and the former poker area is currently occupied by some of our highest-performing slot machines.
Krum also said that if the casino opened poker tables, they would not have enough staff to run the other table games, and in an attempt to rectify this problem, they have been running dealer schools practically none stop in order to train staff to become poker dealers.
Investigations and Enforcement Bureau assistant director Bruce Band told the commission that the number of complaints regarding the absence of poker games has now reached up to 50 per month, so it is obvious that a resolution must be found as soon as possible.
The commission concluded that they would like to give the casinos a chance to resolve the problem without the commission taking any action at this point.
They did request that they should be kept updated on the situation to ensure the plan to reintroduce Poker games is kept on the right track.
