888 to Launch Brand in Africa with Joint Venture Deal

Global online gaming firm 888 has partnered with five industry veterans to form a new joint venture named 888Africa to oversee the expansion of its business into Africa.

Under the terms of the deal, this new joint venture will launch 888 brands in online betting and gaming markets across select jurisdictions across Africa in which online gambling is permitted.

Although the parent company of 888 casino and other 888 brands invested in a minority stake in the venture, the agreement comes with a clause that 888 can take control and later own up to 100% of the venture.

The team is made up of industry veterans, including Christopher Coyne, former chief marketing officer and chief customer officer at the Stars Group; Andre Lee, ex-managing director of sportsbook of the Stars Group and current Chairman of Voxbet; Ian Marmion, former sportsbook trading director at The Stars Group; Alex Rutherford; former CPO at Editec Online; and Helen Scott-Allen, former Chief financial officer of Premier Bet.

The partnership will see 888Africa pay and apply for brand licenses in the four regulated markets it expects to launch in Africa. The firm will also operate via a third-party technology platform and offer players products specifically designed for the African market.
