The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the college sports regulator, is part of the ongoing investigation and the university authority has stringent wagering rules and strictly prohibits players and playing staff from betting on sports.

It is believed that several players in the basketball team have been placing bets on markets related to games they have been participating in. Regulators say that gamblers must be able to believe matches are played with the highest integrity, and players betting on their own games could lead to claims of match-fixing and corruption.

Fresno State Launched Internal Investigation into Betting Activities

The investigation was launched following concerns from coaching staff at Fresno State and Head Coach Vance Walberg saying he believed there may be a problem of gambling within the basketball team. Shortly after the internal investigation was started the NCAA was alerted and became involved in the probe.

There are three players Jalen Weaver, Zaon Collins, and Mykell who have been identified in the probe as possibly breaching gambling rules. Officials at Fresno State Athletics said that Weaver and Collins have been suspended from the basketball competition as the University looks into the allegations. Mykell has also been removed from the team.

In November last year, the NCAA launched an investigation into a young basketball player over gambling activity.
