BGC Launches 2024 Grand National Charity Bet Campaign

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has announced the launch of its yearly Grand National charity betting campaign for the 2024 race.

According to the standard practice, the BGC will invite MPs from various parties to place bets at local betting shops in the country. However, this time, the industry lobby group plans to invite over 50 MPs, more than the 40 legislators called upon in 2023.

As usual, invited MPs will receive £50 to wager on a winner of the Grand National steeplechase on Saturday, April 13. Winnings from this event will be donated to a charity of their choosing. The BGC is also looking to surpass the donation made last year, meaning the group will have to generate over £11000 to beat last year’s record.

Macao Ends Horse Racing

As the UK prepares to host its historic horse racing event, the equestrian sport has been discontinued roughly 6,700 miles across the earth’s surface. In the Chinese special administrative region of Macao, its horse racing track held its final races last Saturday, marking the end of the sport in the jurisdiction after 40 years of its existence.

The development was attributed to economic challenges largely caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In recent years, the jockey club reportedly incurred over $311 million in operating losses.
