The suspect has been named as 37-year-old Chinese national, Wang Yilin, and he is wanted by the Chinese authorities for his part in an alleged multi-million illegal gambling operation. They have requested the Philippines to have Wang deported back to the country, to Guangzhou in China.

The illegal gaming operation involved offering online casino games and is claimed by the Chinese authorities to have netted its participants a figure estimated to be around $8.3 million. The Philippines government has indicated that following his arrest and eventual exclusion the suspect is to be placed on an immigration blacklist and barred from re-entry into the country in the future.

Arrest Part of Continued Cross-Border Cooperation

The detention of Wang in the Philippines demonstrates the ongoing collaboration in recent years between the Chinese government and its neighboring countries as they try to crack down on illegal gambling operations carried out by organized crime gangs.

Wang was initially detained at the airport when officials noticed he was on an Interpol wanted list with a red notice against his name for the crime of running an illegal betting operation, which was issued in September last year. BI Commissioner, Norman Tansingco, explained the Chinese national had been deported back to China two days after being apprehended at Manila.

The return of Wang is part of the collaboration that has seen hundreds of suspects returned to China in illegal gambling operations.

We granted the request of the Chinese embassy that he be sent back to China and stand trial for his alleged crimes.
