Entain plc (LSE: ENT), a leading global sports betting, gaming, and interactive entertainment group, has released its 2022-23 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report. The report showcases Entain's approach to sustainability and its performance on ESG-related issues.

Sustainability is one of Entain's core strategic pillars, alongside growth. The newly published report outlines the significant progress the company has made in implementing its ESG objectives, as outlined in its Sustainability Charter. The charter is based on four core principles: an exclusive focus on regulated markets, leading responsible betting and gaming practices, best-in-class corporate governance, and investment in people and local communities.

The report provides an update on the developments since Entain Sustain, the industry-leading sustainability and ESG-focused event held in November 2022.

Key highlights from the report include:

Exclusive focus on regulated markets:

  • 100% of Entain's revenues are generated from domestically regulated or regulating markets.
  • The company has exited nine markets where a safe and regulated betting and gaming industry was not viable.
  • Entain holds domestic licenses in 30 countries and 26 North American markets.

Continued leadership in safer betting and gaming:

  • Successful roll-out of the pioneering ARCTM player protection program to 22 international markets.
  • Increased contributions to Research, Education, and Treatment (RET) in the UK to 1% of Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) in 2023.

Pursuit of high standards of corporate governance:

  • Initial findings from Entain's double materiality assessment have been released.
  • 33% of the company's Board members are female.
  • The first-ever Board Diversity Policy has been published by Entain.
  • 15% of the group-wide bonus is tied to safer betting and gaming metrics, and 5% is tied to customer metrics.
  • The Big Six Compliance Programme has significantly increased the completion rate of mandatory employee training to 93%.

Investment in people and communities:

  • Commitment to a net-zero carbon emissions target by 2035, to be verified by the Science-Based Targets initiative.
  • Near-term science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets are being developed.
  • Continued investment in grassroots and community sports through the Entain Foundation's Pitching In initiative.
  • Progress in closing the gender pay gap.
  • Implementation of well-being programs to support colleagues, particularly those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Entain's performance has been recognized through multiple endorsements and accolades from respected third parties.

In 2022, the company received the highest level of accreditation (Advanced Level 3) for its online activities and Advanced Level 2 for its land-based activities from GamCare's Safer Gambling Standard.

Entain was also named the global 2022 Socially Responsible Operator of the Year by industry experts at SBC, in addition to winning various regional titles. The company's membership in the FTSE4Good index and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index further acknowledges its sustainability efforts.

By emphasizing sustainability and implementing responsible practices, Entain continues to lead the way in creating a more sustainable and socially responsible gaming industry. The company's commitment to driving positive change and its ongoing efforts to protect customers and support communities reflect its dedication to long-term value creation and responsible growth.

Over the past year, we have continued to make great progress in setting the standards for our industry in all areas of ESG across all of our operations. We are proud to lead the industry in providing the safest possible betting and gaming platform, taking a leading role in supporting the communities in which we operate, reducing our environmental impact, and in doing so, making Entain the best place to work for all of our people. By delivering on this ambition, we will create long-term, sustainable growth for all of our stakeholders.
