Indian National Admits Role in Missouri Gambling Ring
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A man has pleaded guilty in federal court for his role in a multi-million-dollar illegal gambling and fraud operation that ran across multiple locations in southwest Missouri.
Rahulkumar D. Patel, 41, entered a guilty plea to charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Multi-Million Operation Across Missouri
According to court filings, Patel and his co-conspirators generated approximately $7.6 million in proceeds through a network of gambling businesses that operated under the appearance of legitimate arcades.
Authorities said the group used various financial transactions to conceal and distribute those funds, forming the basis for money laundering charges. The case stems from a federal investigation into activity spanning from mid-2022 to May 2025.
Patel was one of nine individuals charged in a 72-count indictment, with prosecutors alleging coordinated efforts to run illegal gambling operations and commit fraud.

Businesses Disguised as Arcades
Investigators said the operation included several locations in Springfield, along with additional sites in Joplin and Branson West. The venues were presented as internet or adult arcades but were found to be running gambling devices and games of chance in violation of state and federal law.
Law enforcement officials previously said the establishments contributed to wider criminal activity in the surrounding areas, with local authorities noting a reduction in incidents after the sites were shut down.
Under federal law, Patel faces potential penalties of up to 20 years in prison for wire fraud conspiracy, up to five years for operating an illegal gambling business and up to 20 years for money laundering conspiracy.
A sentencing date has not yet been set, with the court expected to determine the final outcome following a presentence investigation.
