Israeli Air Force Officer Charged in Polymarket Betting Investigation
JERUSALEM – An Israeli Air Force officer accused of using classified military information for Polymarket betting claims gambling activity is widespread within the force.

Israeli prosecutors on Monday requested that the officer remain detained during the investigation, arguing he posed an ongoing security risk. A court rejected the suspect’s request for house arrest, citing concerns linked to the alleged handling and sale of classified operational information.
According to local reports, prosecutors accused the officer of showing a willingness to “sell information for financial benefits” while putting Israeli Air Force personnel and operations at risk. The court also emphasized that the investigation extended beyond gambling itself and into the handling of sensitive military intelligence.
“This is not just a ‘gambling story’, but a serious treatise of wrongful acts committed out of a pursuit of excitement and lust for financial gain, while completely ignoring their consequences and the most basic moral and ethical norms”, the judge overseeing the case said.

During his defense, the officer reportedly argued he did not fully understand the seriousness of his actions because prediction market gambling was common among personnel. “The entire Israel Air Force is involved in gambling”, the officer claimed during proceedings.
The court said those allegations were not directly relevant to the immediate criminal case but called for a separate military investigation into the broader claims.
The case centers on the prediction market platform Polymarket, which allows users to place wagers on the outcomes of political, military, and real-world events using cryptocurrency. The platform has drawn increasing regulatory and legal attention globally as authorities examine how sensitive or insider information could influence market outcomes.
