Polymarket US Hit with Nevada Prediction Market Injunction
LAS VEGAS – A Nevada court has granted a preliminary injunction against Polymarket US as state regulators continue efforts to block unlicensed prediction markets.
The ruling marks another victory for the Nevada Gaming Control Board in its campaign against sports, election and entertainment event contracts offered without a Nevada gaming licence.
Judge Woodbury of Nevada’s First Judicial District Court ruled in favour of the board on May 29. A written order is expected to follow. Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman Mike Dreitzer welcomed the decision and said the regulator would continue enforcing state gaming law.
“We are very pleased with Judge Woodbury’s ruling and will continue to vigorously enforce Nevada law to safeguard gaming in our state”, Dreitzer said.
Nevada Targets Unlicensed Prediction Markets
The board said it has taken several actions in recent months to halt prediction market operations in Nevada.
According to the regulator, all known unlicensed prediction markets operating in the state have now been restricted. Earlier preliminary injunction orders already prohibit Kalshi and Coinbase from offering or facilitating sports, election and entertainment-related event contracts in Nevada.
The latest ruling adds Polymarket US to that enforcement picture.
The board said it considers sports-event contracts, as well as certain other event contracts, to be wagering activity under Nevada law. That means companies offering those products must hold a Nevada gaming licence.

Board Cites State Gaming Law
The regulator said Kalshi’s operations are unlawful in Nevada and violate several provisions of state gaming law, including rules covering unlicensed gaming and wagering activity.
Nevada’s position places prediction markets inside the state’s gambling framework when contracts are tied to sports or other events that regulators treat as wagers.
That interpretation puts the state at odds with prediction market operators, which have argued in other jurisdictions that event contracts fall under financial-market regulation rather than state gambling law.
Wider Prediction Market Fight Continues
The Nevada action comes as prediction markets face growing scrutiny across the US and abroad.
State gambling regulators have increasingly challenged platforms offering sports and event-based contracts without traditional gaming licences. At the same time, companies in the sector have argued that federally regulated event contracts should not be treated the same way as sportsbook wagers.
Nevada’s latest court win is significant because it comes from the country’s most closely watched gambling jurisdiction. The board said state policy requires gaming to be licensed and controlled to protect the public and the integrity of the industry.
The written order in the Polymarket US case is expected to provide more detail on the court’s reasoning.
