Reno Gambling Addiction Center Expands Services as Demand Grows
RENO, Nev. – A Nevada-based gambling addiction centre is expanding its services in Reno as demand for support continues to rise across the state.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The Dr. Robert Hunter International Problem Gambling Center, headquartered in Las Vegas, is increasing its presence in northern Nevada through a phased rollout of services that currently combine telehealth support with limited in-person counseling.
The expansion comes against a backdrop of growing concern about gambling-related harm in the state. A 2025 study from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas International Gaming Institute found that around 15% of adults in Nevada are at risk for problem gambling.
Rising Demand Among Younger Bettors
Center officials say one of the most notable trends is the increase in cases among younger adults, particularly men aged 18 to 30. This group has shown higher engagement with sports betting, reflecting broader changes in how gambling is accessed and consumed.
Stephanie Goodman, executive director of the center, pointed to the combination of mobile betting platforms and continuous access through digital devices as a key factor. She also noted the growing presence of newer formats such as prediction markets, which are expanding the ways users interact with wagering products.
The accessibility of these platforms has made it easier for gambling activity to become habitual, particularly among users already exposed to betting through mainstream channels.

For now, the Reno operation is running a hybrid model, allowing clients to access support through a mix of remote sessions and individual in-person appointments. Group-based activities, which are standard at the center’s Las Vegas location, are currently delivered online until enough local participation is established.
Once client numbers reach a sustainable level, the organization plans to introduce a full in-person program, including its Intensive Outpatient Program. This would bring Reno in line with the services already available in southern Nevada.
According to the center, outcomes from its existing programs have exceeded national benchmarks. While typical recovery rates in the United States range between 8% and 10% after one year, the organization reports significantly higher success among participants in its structured treatment plans.
State-Funded Access to Treatment
Services offered through the Reno center are funded at the state level, allowing residents to access support without financial barriers. While a small optional copayment is available, treatment is effectively provided at no cost to those seeking help.
The expansion reflects a broader effort within Nevada to address the social impact of gambling as access to betting continues to grow. With more services expected to come online in Reno, the center aims to provide a more consistent support network across the state for individuals experiencing gambling-related harm.
