Slotegrator Looks to Asia in New Analysis Report

Slotegrator has published a short study of the opportunities offered by the Asian gambling market in 2022. The gambling technology company highlights that Asia is home to roughly 60% of the world’s population and, as such, presents operators with numerous growth opportunities.

According to Slotegrator, once regulation, tax legislation, licensing, and the industry’s development across the region are taken into account, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines are currently the most attractive markets, with India and Thailand not far behind.

At present, only lotteries and sports betting are allowed in Japan. While a law to allow integrated resorts was passed in 2016, at present, authorities are still working on finalizing legislation that will allow the casinos to be built. However, by the end of the year, gambling revenue is projected to reach $9 billion, meaning that operators are likely to be paying very close attention.

The situation is not much different in South Korea; however, the country is home to a single casino that caters to domestic players as well as a number where only foreigners are permitted. The country’s gambling revenue is estimated to be $17.6 billion this year.

The Philippines market is currently the most attractive market, with two zones where gambling is legal. One zone is run by the state organization PAGCOR and the second is the Cagayan Economic Zone (CEZA). Turnover in the Philippines has reached $3 billion, and while company registration and licensing costs are higher than in other Asian countries, taxation is lower.

In India, betting on horseracing and lotteries is allowed everywhere, but casino gambling is only legal in the states of Sikkim and Goa, as well as the Daman district. However, most iGaming brands are able to operate in a “grey zone” as the regulatory framework is highly ambiguous, and it is not entirely clear if the practice is legal or not. This year’s gambling turnover is expected to be $9 billion.

The Thai gambling market is partially legalized; lotteries and horseracing betting is legal. Furthermore, Thais are able to gamble at offshore online casinos, and those operating in Cambodia, Lao, and Myanmar are particularly popular.

Together with its analysis, Slotegrator explains how its online casino platform and other tools, such as Moneygrator and APIgrator, provide operators with all they need to establish themselves in the Asian market.
