Oklahoma Casinos Face Threat Reports
The Quapaw Nation Marshal Service said officers responded to Downstream Casino Resort shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday after a report of a threat of violence. Law enforcement said it did not believe there was an active threat to casino patrons or employees.
As a precaution, the marshal service said an increased law enforcement presence would remain at the property to help protect people on site. The casino remained open while the investigation continued.
Authorities said similar reports appeared to have been made at multiple casinos across Oklahoma. Law enforcement agencies were working together to determine the source and credibility of those reports.
The Quapaw Nation Marshal Service also acknowledged assistance from local, state and federal law enforcement partners. It said anyone with information should contact the agency as the investigation remains ongoing.
Michigan Casino Placed Under Restricted Access
Law enforcement also responded to Island Resort & Casino in Harris, Michigan, after a reported threat involving explosives and weapons. Local reports said the call claimed a vehicle on the property contained explosives and guns.
Hannahville Tribal Police Chief Jeff Hansen said officers had not found evidence of a credible threat as of Sunday evening, but police continued searching the property out of an abundance of caution.
The casino was placed under restricted access while the search continued. People leaving through the gas station entrance told local media they were allowed to exit only after their vehicles were searched.
An all-clear was later issued at Island Resort & Casino at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time. Police said there did not appear to be any danger to the public, although the investigation remained active.
