Alberta Invests CA$2.4 Million in Gambling Treatment as iGaming Market Expands

EDMONTON, Alberta – Alberta is providing CA$2.4 million to expand specialized treatment for people experiencing gambling-related harm. The funding will make outpatient care available in Calgary and Edmonton while extending virtual treatment to residents across the province.
Brick House Recovery Centre is the first organization selected through a provincial competition for providers of coordinated gambling treatment and recovery services. Additional funding recipients are expected to be selected later this fall.
The investment comes as Alberta develops the responsible gambling framework surrounding its recently launched regulated iGaming market. In its official announcement, the province said 1% of gross gaming revenue from the market is dedicated to funding addiction treatment.
Brick House to Expand Gambling Treatment Across Alberta
The funding will support a flexible, person-centered outpatient program through Brick House Recovery Centre. Participants will receive four weeks of outpatient treatment followed by up to eight weeks of individualized aftercare intended to support longer-term recovery.
In-person services will be available through Brick House locations in Edmonton and Calgary, while virtual treatment will allow people elsewhere in Alberta to access the program. The province said the services will be publicly funded and available to individuals and families affected by gambling addiction.
Mental Health and Addiction Minister Rick Wilson said gambling-related harm can affect mental health, relationships and financial security. He said the funding is intended to provide recovery-focused support that helps participants regain stability and build resilience.
Funding Tied to Alberta’s New iGaming Market
Alberta opened its regulated commercial iGaming market on July 13, becoming the second Canadian province after Ontario to establish a competitive framework for private online operators. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis oversees regulatory compliance, while the Alberta iGaming Corporation manages commercial agreements and other market functions.
The province has committed 1% of gross gaming revenue from regulated iGaming to gambling addiction treatment. The Brick House award is being provided as Alberta begins building out those services alongside the new market.

Alberta launched an open competition earlier this year seeking organizations capable of providing coordinated outpatient and online gambling treatment. Brick House is the first provider to receive funding through that process, with the province planning to select additional recipients later in the fall.
The government has not limited the initiative to a single provider or location, indicating that the treatment network will continue to expand as the regulated market develops. Albertans seeking gambling-related support can also access 211 Alberta around the clock for connections to treatment, mental health and community services.
