RENO, Nev. - Reno Police are searching for a suspect following a brazen armed robbery at Tamarack Casino that took place in broad daylight on Sunday, April 19. Authorities said the man entered the premises, produced a handgun, and demanded money before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

According to investigators, the suspect exited through the back of the casino and released a chemical substance, believed to be pepper spray, into the air during his escape. Several patrons reported breathing irritation as a result, though no serious injuries have been confirmed.

Surveillance Footage Being Reviewed

Police confirmed that the suspect remains at large and is currently being tracked using video surveillance footage from both inside and around the casino property. No arrests have been made at this stage, and the investigation is ongoing.

The incident has raised concerns among local patrons, particularly given the casino’s popularity within the Reno community. Tamarack Casino features approximately 15,000 square feet of gaming space, including more than 500 slot machines and video poker games.

Previous Incident Highlights Security Concerns

This is not the first time the venue has been targeted. The last known armed robbery at Tamarack Casino occurred on July 12, 2017, when a masked individual held an employee at gunpoint at the sportsbook. In that case, a customer and a security guard intervened, leading to a physical struggle during which a shot was fired. Although no one was struck by the bullet, a bystander sustained injuries in the altercation. The suspect ultimately fled the scene in a vehicle driven by an accomplice. He was later identified during the investigation as Ulises Antonio Vizcaino.

Implications and Ongoing Concerns

Sunday’s incident underscores the continued challenges faced by land-based casinos in maintaining security, particularly during peak hours. While no major injuries were reported, the use of a chemical agent added a layer of risk for patrons and staff alike.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as efforts to locate the suspect continue.
