Entain Becomes the First Online Poker License Holder in Germany
International sports betting and gambling company Entain has been granted new licenses to operate in Germany, including the first two permits in the country for online poker.
The State Administrative Office of Saxony-Anhalt awarded the sports betting operator a total number of five online gambling licenses, with two of these certifications allowing Entain to offer internet poker via its bwin and Ladbrokes brands.
The other three licenses allow the two brands above and Sportingbet to run iGaming operations in Germany legally.
Each license is valid for five years, after which the company will have to renew to continue offering its services in the country.
With the new certifications, Entain has solidified its presence as a market leader in the European online gaming industry.
We’re delighted to now have our licences for gaming and poker services in the regulated German market, enabling us to offer and market them to our customers. It is an important and welcome step towards achieving the goal of a fully regulated online betting and gaming market in Germany. Only through such regulation and its enforcement will we avoid the reality of customers going to the black market where there are none of the safeguards that reputable operators such as Entain guarantee.
