Ian Gallagher Appointed as 888’s New Chief Product Officer
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:Ian Gallagher has been appointed as the chief product officer at 888, and has begun work in his new role this month. Gallagher is responsible for guiding the product vision, strategy, and development across 888’s various global brands and business units.
Extensive Industry Experience
Gallagher was product director at Flutter Entertainment from January 2021 to February 2023. Prior to this, he had a five-year period at Flutter’s Paddy Power Betfair division. His time at Paddy Power Betfair included various product leadership roles, notably as the product director for gaming.
Earlier in his career, Gallagher also worked at Rational Group as a casino senior manager, and he held positions at Creative Labs and Mitsubishi Electric in marketing capacities.
Gallagher announced his new job in a LinkedIn post:
I’m happy to share I’ve started a new position as chief product officer at 888. I am excited to work with (888 CEO) Per Widerström and his team to help shape and grow the iconic brands that we have.
Strong Q3 for 888
888 has shown financial resilience, especially in its last quarter performance. The company reported a 10% increase in revenue year-on-year in the third quarter of its 2023 financial year, amounting to £405 million. This growth was particularly driven by enhancements in its retail segment, including investments in self-service betting terminals and gaming cabinets, leading to a 1% rise in retail revenue.
However, the UK and Ireland’s online business saw a 10% decline in revenue. This was attributed to the ongoing effects of safer gambling initiatives, a revised marketing strategy, and a lower-than-expected net win margin from sports betting in September. Furthermore, international operations experienced a 19% decrease in revenue, with a 2% drop in average monthly active users.
