Yu Wen Fu, a 64-year-old baccarat dealer employed at Mohegan Sun, is accused of orchestrating game manipulations that led to substantial losses amounting to $124,000 for the casino. This alleged misconduct has raised significant concerns with the management of the casino and has triggered investigations into the incident.

Dealer Suspected of Manipulating Card Order

On April 21, 2023, Fu was brought to the attention of Tribal police by a pit manager who was suspicious of the way he was handling cards. Surveillance cameras in the casino recorded Fu preparing the deck before a player named Haoen Jiang arrived to play.

Deviating from the typical card-washing procedure on the table, the Mohegan Sun dealer is accused of arranging the cards in a prearranged order. When reviewing the footage, police observed Fu and Jiang working together and calculated that the pair cost the casino $124,260 between March 29 and April 20, 2023.

The aim of baccarat is to correctly predict whether the dealer's or player's hand will be closer to nine once the cards are dealt. Fu is suspected of manipulating the deck to signal the appearance of the nine. Through surveillance, the casino tracked the chips paid out to establish how much money had been lost.

When questioned, Jiang denied any involvement but was found to have Fu's contact information. Jiang's explanation centered on a conversation about concert tickets. Despite this, Jiang was expelled from the casino without facing charges.

Dealer’s Defense against Accusations

While the investigation continues, Fu has been suspended from his duties. He defends himself by claiming that he was simply attending to cards that had turned face up as a result of the wash, and denies any intent of personal gain. Arrested on November 15, Fu faces multiple larceny charges and was released on a $25,000 bond. His arraignment took place in New London's Part A court on January 8.
