Online Sports Betting Goes Live in the State of North Carolina

On 11 March 2024, online sports betting went live in North Carolina. The move comes after Governor Roy Cooper signed House Bill 347 into law last year in June.
There were a number of requirements outlined in the bill that sportsbooks have met over the past weeks and months. For instance, operators had to begin accepting bets before 14 June 2024, which was easily achieved. Operators also had to submit their internal controls by 26 January.
Eight Operators Receive Licenses
The North Carolina State Lottery Commission has awarded interactive sports wagering licenses to a number of operators including FanDuel, DraftKings, Fanatics, BetMGM, bet365, ESPN Bet and Underdog.
Many of these launched today including FanDuel and DraftKings. It means that DraftKings is now live in 27 states across the US.

In order to launch online sports betting in North Carolina, operators are required to partner with a sports team, league, or venue in the state. For example, DraftKings is partnered with NASCAR, BetMGM is partnered with the Charlotte Motor Speedway, and ESPN Bet is partnered with the PGA tour and the Wells Fargo Championship.
Fanatics Betting has become the official sports betting partner of the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes while bet365 has signed a partnership deal with the Charlotte Hornets, the NBA team.
In addition to operators, a number of suppliers have also secured licenses including GeoComply, SBTech and Sportradar. Sportradar received its license last week and it is valid for five years. It allows the company to provide sports data to betting operators in the state.
