The Britannia Stakes race at Royal Ascot is taking place today (Thursday, 22 June), and a number of the UK’s most prominent gambling operators and Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) members have said that that they will be donating all profits from the race to charity.

Any profits made from win and each-way bets, after levy and duties are deducted, will be donated. The BGC has been running the Britannia Stakes charitable push every year since 2020, and each year, different charities are chosen to receive the funds.

This year the money is to be split between six charities: SportsAid, the Holocaust Educational Trust, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, SAS Regimental Association, Ascot Racecourse Supports and Together for Looked After Children.

Last year, the race raised a total of £1.2 million for good causes, and this year, if bookmakers fail to make a profit, then they have agreed to make a combined donation of £250,000 to be split between the charities.

Several bookmakers have agreed to take part this year, including Flutter, bet365, Entain, William Hill, Kindred, 888, Rank, LiveScore, Tote, Fitzdares and Bet with Ascot.

Royal Ascot remains one of Britain’s most historic and world-renowned sporting spectacles of the year, and I am delighted once more that it is raising vital funds for a host of outstanding charities. Millions of people enjoy a bet during Royal Ascot, and however the punters fare in the Britannia Stakes, some of the UK’s top charities are guaranteed to be big winners.

Alastair Warwick, the Ascot Racecourse chief executive, described the charity donation as “fantastic news”. He added, “The money raised since 2020 has been extremely well received, including by our own Ascot Racecourse Supports program and the contributions have enabled us to support some extremely worthy causes and carry out important work in the community.”
