MGM Leads as Detroit Casinos Report $112.57M in July Revenue

DETROIT: The city’s three commercial casinos generated $112.57 million in aggregate revenue during July 2026. Table games and slots rose 5.3% year over year, while retail sports betting contributed $929,704 in qualified adjusted gross receipts.

July also marked a strong rebound from June, with table games and slot revenue increasing 9.6% month over month. Through the first seven months of 2026, revenue from those games was 1.9% ahead of the same period last year.

All Three Detroit Casinos Post Annual Growth

Table games and slots accounted for $111.64 million of July’s total revenue. MGM Grand Detroit remained the market leader with a 47% share, followed by MotorCity Casino at 31% and Hollywood Casino at Greektown at 22%.

MGM generated $52.5 million from table games and slots, up 3.3% from July 2025. MotorCity posted the strongest percentage increase, rising 8.7% to $34.32 million, while Hollywood Casino at Greektown increased 5.2% to $24.82 million.

The results continued the market’s year-to-date growth despite monthly fluctuations earlier in the summer. Detroit’s casinos had reported $101.84 million in table games and slot revenue in June before the July increase.

Michigan Gaming Control Board revenue data shows the three properties are subject to state and city gaming taxes based on their casino activity. They paid $9 million in state gaming taxes for July, up from $8.6 million in July 2025.

The casinos also reported $13.3 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit during the month.

Retail Sports Betting Handle Reaches $5.88M

Retail sportsbooks at the three casinos accepted $5.88 million in wagers during July. Gross sports betting receipts totaled $939,620, while qualified adjusted gross receipts came to $929,704.

Retail betting QAGR declined 9.9% compared with July 2025 but increased 11.2% from June. MotorCity led the three properties with $461,165 in QAGR, followed by MGM at $360,265 and Hollywood Casino at Greektown at $108,274.

The retail results come as Michigan’s online gambling market has shown stronger iGaming growth alongside softer sports betting, underscoring the different trends across the state’s gambling segments.

The casinos paid $35,143 in state taxes from July retail sports betting activity and submitted another $42,952 in wagering taxes to Detroit.

Fantasy Contest Revenue Falls Below $500,000

The regulator also released fantasy contest results for June 2026, which are reported on a one-month delay. Operators generated $494,799 in adjusted fantasy contest revenue and paid $41,563 in taxes.

The July casino figures leave Detroit’s land-based gaming market ahead of its 2025 pace through the first seven months of the year. The next monthly report will show whether the table games and slots segment can maintain that growth following July’s 9.6% rebound from June.
