New Jersey August Gaming Revenue Drops as Online Casinos Keep Growing

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – New Jersey gaming revenue fell 4.1% year over year to $615.7 million in August, state regulators reported.

The decline was led by a 25% drop in sports wagering revenue, while internet gaming remained the only major segment to record year-over-year growth.

According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement’s August results, the statewide total was down from $642.2 million in August 2025. Revenue also declined 9.2% from July 2026, when casinos, racetracks and their partners generated $678.1 million.

Sports Betting Revenue Falls 25%

Sports wagering gross revenue reached $61.4 million in August, down 25% from $81.9 million a year earlier. Online sportsbooks accounted for $59.7 million, while retail sportsbook lounges generated approximately $1.7 million.

The DGE attributed the annual decline primarily to a later start to parts of the fall sports calendar compared with August 2025, including college football, alongside a lower overall sportsbook win percentage. The result was also substantially below July, when sports wagering revenue reached $97 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of approximately 36.7%.

Through the first eight months of 2026, New Jersey sportsbooks generated $671.4 million in gross revenue, down 5.3% from $708.7 million during the corresponding period last year.

Online Casino Revenue Maintains Annual Growth

Internet gaming win reached $259.3 million for August, an increase of 4.4% from $248.4 million a year earlier. Revenue from New Jersey online casinos nevertheless declined about 6.4% from July’s $276.9 million.

FanDuel remained the largest individual online casino brand in August, generating $56.7 million in internet gaming win, followed by DraftKings at $43.5 million and BetMGM at $35.1 million. Hard Rock Bet recorded one of the stronger annual increases among larger brands, rising 13.3% to $15.2 million.

Year-to-date internet gaming win reached $2.13 billion, up 13.2% from $1.88 billion through August 2025. The continuing online growth follows a year in which New Jersey gaming revenue approached $7 billion, with internet casino expansion accounting for a substantial share of the increase.

Atlantic City Casino Win Declines

Atlantic City’s nine casino hotels reported $294.9 million in casino win, down 5.5% from $311.9 million in August 2025 and approximately 3.1% below July’s $304.2 million.

Slot machine win fell 5.1% year over year to $222.4 million, while table game win declined 6.5% to $72.5 million. Borgata was the only casino hotel to record an annual increase in total casino win, rising 6.4% to $85.4 million.

Despite the weaker August results, casino win for the first eight months of 2026 remained 1.8% ahead of the same period last year at $2.01 billion. Total statewide gaming revenue reached $4.81 billion year to date, up 5.4%, while the DGE reported $81.5 million in gross revenue taxes for August.
