Online Sports Betting Goes Live in Maryland

The state of Maryland has finally launched its online sports betting market.

It was a long time coming for Maryland bettors since May 2021, when the state legalized sports betting and launched physical betting locations on December 9. However, the approval only allowed residents to register in-person and wager at retail sportsbooks.

With online and mobile sports wagering market now live in Michigan, the Old Line State residents can comfortably wager on their favorite teams and big matches in their homes or on the go.

Seven licensed operators took their first bets in the state when the market went live on Wednesday, including DraftKings, BetMGM, FanDuel, Caesars, Barstool, BetRivers, and PointsBet.

Unlike some states in the US that limit or ban betting on college sports, especially in-house teams like Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey, Maryland will allow its residents to wager on their favorite local collegiate teams. This is great news, especially for basketball lovers who want to play along with the Terrapins, the men's basketball team for the University of Maryland Terrapins, who are currently leading their NCAA conference after beginning the season with a 5-0 run.

Bettors will also be able to wager on a variety of sports and professional leagues, including the NFL, NBA, and Premier league.

In separate official statements, the approved operators in Maryland's newly regulated market have expressed their commitment to giving bettors in the state an exciting sports betting experience. They are also offering bonuses for new signups.
