Pennsylvania Gaming Revenue Falls 2.2% to $569.7 Million in August

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvania gaming revenue fell 2.16% year over year to $569.7 million in August, state regulators reported.

Growth from online casino games was not enough to offset weaker sports wagering, retail table games and several other gaming segments.

The August total was also 3.6% below July’s $591.1 million, reversing the previous month’s 5.99% year-over-year increase. Gaming activity generated approximately $249 million in state tax revenue during August.

Sports Betting and Table Games Lead Declines

According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s August revenue report, sports wagering revenue fell 19.92% from a year earlier to $39.4 million. Betting handle declined 3.29% to $498.5 million from $515.4 million in August 2025.

Sportsbook revenue was also down 24.1% from July, when Pennsylvania operators generated $51.8 million. The decline marks a reversal from July’s 27.75% year-over-year increase in sports betting revenue.

Retail table games recorded another significant decline, falling 18.09% year over year to $66.4 million. Wind Creek Bethlehem accounted for one of the largest drops, with table revenue falling 49.21% to $11.7 million, while Parx Casino declined 19.42% to $14.6 million.

Retail slot revenue was comparatively stable at $213.9 million, down 1.26% from August 2025 and virtually unchanged from July. Pennsylvania casinos operated 24,520 slot machines during the month.

Online Casino Revenue Rises 6.25%

Internet casino gaming remained a growth area, generating $245.7 million in August, up 6.25% from $231.2 million a year earlier. Revenue from Pennsylvania online casinos nevertheless declined about 1.3% from July’s $249 million.

Online slots generated $195.2 million, an 8.84% annual increase, while internet table-game revenue fell 2.57% to $48.1 million. Online poker contributed another $2.4 million, down 5.15% from August 2025.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course remained the largest iGaming certificate holder by revenue, generating $95.4 million online during August. Valley Forge Casino Resort followed with $67.5 million, while Rivers Casino Philadelphia reported $39.9 million.

Hollywood Casino Leads Statewide Revenue

Across all reported gaming channels, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course led Pennsylvania with $109.5 million in August revenue, up 8.1% year over year. Valley Forge Casino Resort ranked second at $94.4 million despite a 4.38% decline.

Wind Creek Bethlehem recorded one of the largest declines among major operators, with total revenue falling 24.94% to $37.6 million. Parx Casino revenue dropped 10.62% to $52 million, while Harrah’s Philadelphia increased 8.86% to $26.2 million.

Fantasy contests posted the largest percentage increase among individual gaming categories, rising 54.63% to just over $1 million. Video gaming terminal revenue fell 6.39% to $3.35 million.

August’s results leave Pennsylvania with a weaker monthly comparison than July, while continued online casino growth provides a partial counterweight to declines in sports wagering and land-based table games.
